Rosh Hashanah Honey Cake

Get your New Year off to a sweet start with our easy honey cake recipe

Ingredients

  1. 300g self raising flour
  2. 225g unsalted butter
  3. 100g dark muscovado sugar
  4. 6 fl oz honey
  5. 3 large eggs
  6. 2 teaspoons grated orange zest
  7. 2 tablespoons orange juice
  8. 1/2 teaspoon ground allspice

1. Get an adult to help you soften the butter

2. Stir the honey and sugar into the softened butter

3. In a separate bowl, beat the eggs, then add them to the butter/honey/sugar mixture, stir well

4. In another bowl, sift the flour then add the egg/honey/sugar/butter mixture to it. Stir well.

5. Now add the allspice, grated orange zest and orange juice and stir until the mixture is smooth and quite runny

6. Pour the mixture into a loaf tin or 20cm round cake tin

7. Bake at 180C/350C/gas mark 4 for appx. 50min

8. Check if it's ready by pushing a skewer into the cake, if it comes out clean your cake is done
